Ho Chi Minh is elected the president of North Vietnam on this day. Born on 19 May 1890, Ho Chi Minh was a Vietnamese communist revolutionary leader. He officially stepped down from power in 1965, after defeating the French Union in 1954 at the battle of Điện Biên Phủ.
